Pedernales – Province of Manabí – Ecuador
The beach of Pedernales is located three hours from the city of Manta specifically in the province of Manabí.
Pedernales was settled by the Jama-Coaque culture, which was found by the Spaniards on the banks of the river of the same name and from which some ceramic remains are preserved. It is crossed by the Equator.
The mouth of the river Cojimíes is 40 km. Of extension,
part of it limits the provinces of Manabí and Esmeraldas.
In Pedernales a historical event was developed: in 1736 was the Geodesic Mission, commanded by Charles Marie de la Condamine, who in Punta Palmar considered the first point for the measurement of the arc that would determine the shape of the earth.
